ADDITIVES, SAFETY REGULATIONS AND BLENDING ESSENTIAL OILS

CHOOSING THE INGREDIENT 

Choose the ingredient from the list and add it to the variant component of your recipe.

 

The list can be filtered by ingredient name, INCI name, supplier or type to make it easier to find the ingredient that you are looking for.

CHECKING AGAINST THE SAFETY REGULATIONS

As you add ingredients to the variant, Cosmetic Companion will start evaluating the recipe to conform to assessment safety requirements.

When ingredients do not conform they are flagged as follows:

  • An individual ingredient exceeds the limit in the Safety % column

  • The combined total of similar ingredient exceeds the limit for that type of ingredient

  • The total of all variant ingredients exceeds 10%

  • In the case of non-soap recipes, Cosmetic Companion will also take into account any of these ingredients included in the base recipe.

BLENDING ESSENTIAL OILS

Using the 'Fragrance Wheel' select the type of fragrance.  A list of the essential oils in that range will be shown.  For each oil there is a data sheet with a description and where it is typically used in soap and cosmetic making.

Also shown, are the oils that blend best with the oil selected in the list.

HOW DOES COSMETIC COMPANION HELP YOU TO MEET
UK AND EU SAFETY REGULATIONS?

In partnership with, and developed in conjunction with, Cosmetic Safety Solutions the Cosmetic Companion program provides you with the following features:

    Additives are assessed individually, in combination and in total, thereby making the process very complex to apply to your formulations, and relatively difficult to calculate quantities of additives.  Certainly a blanket percentage rule will not work if you want to pass the assessment process and bring your new product to market.
     

  • Cosmetic Companion guides you through this difficult, complex process allowing you to do what you are best at doing - making cosmetics.
     

  • From a cost perspective the assessment-ready application form, created by Cosmetic Companion, reduces the workload for the assessors.  This means that Cosmetic Safety Solutions can, in turn, offer you a substantial discount on their services!
