SETTING UP A RECIPE

SETTING UP THE PARAMETERS FOR YOUR RECIPE

Start a new recipe or retrieve a recipe, from your library, that would be a good basis for your new product.  Change some parameters and ingredients and you're ready to go.

Cosmetic Companion is already on the lookout for choices that may effect getting through the assessment process.  In the UK and EU, you cannot simply specify factors, just because other calculators allow you to do it.

Also, whether or not you are producing elsewhere in the world, these are all factors that keep your customers safe.

ON-BOARD DATA SHEETS ABOUT THE OILS & BUTTERS

Cosmetic Companion has the perfect addition to the normal functionality of other lye calculators.

As any experienced soap maker will know the fatty acid profiles shown in lye calculators do not necessarily predict the characteristics of your soap.  Blends of oils, saponification and other factors can lead to producing an unsatisfactory product.  The on-board data sheets give you a quick view on how your final product will turn out if you add a particular oil.  This functionality is always available for ingredients, included by Cosmetic Companion Ltd., whatever type of product you are developing.

PROPERTIES OF OILS

ADDING INGREDIENTS TO YOUR BASE RECIPE

As you add the ingredients you see the lye calculations, and other elements of the recipe developing.  All on one screen.

The water discount of the recipe is also shown, as many soapers like to know what this is in their recipe.

The lye calculation, showing on the right of the screen, allows for water substitutes and thickening agents for liquid soaps.

THE EVOLVING PROPERTIES OF THE SOAP

In the graphics you can 'see' how the properties of your soap are developing.

On the left, as you choose an oil you see it's properties.  Additionally, and UNIQUE to Cosmetic Companion, you can sort the oils by property allowing you to pick oils that are needed to give you a balanced recipe.  There are also warnings that warn you of the likelihood of your soap producing DOS (dreaded orange spot).

Also,  you can use the price banding to choose oils that suit the type of soap you are creating (budget or luxury end of the market).

BASE RECIPE IS COMPLETE -
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?

At this point you can 'tweak' the oils to arrive at a different balance of properties in your soap.  Either by changing the oil or the amount used.

Once you are happy with the properties, and you have 100% of the base weight, you can move on to the variants (additives).
